Saya Kubota 久保田 沙耶
Born in 1987, Ibaraki, Japan.
Kubota travelled and lived in Hong Kong when she was a child. She graduated from Fine Art Department of the University of Tsukuba, specializing in comprehensive sculpture. She also majored in oil painting and received her master's degree at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts.
Kubota's major inspiration is to combine daily scenes, as well as the memories and languages generated from everyday encounter, into new impressions and shapes. She once layered burnt toilet paper and stacked into create a two-dimensional sculpture, or installation which combine relics and decorations. She is keen to combine a variety of media and explore various possibilities.
She is well known for her work "Drifting Post Office" at the 2013 Setouchi International Art Festival.
1987年生於茨城縣。
幼時曾旅居香港,畢業於筑波大學藝術專門學群構成專攻綜合造形領域,並在東京藝術大學研究所美術研究科主修油畫及修畢碩士課程。久保田創作的主要概念是將日常光景,以及與人們邂逅而產生的記憶與言語,組合成嶄新的印象與形體。曾以燒焦的衛生紙疊成好幾層,創作出平面作品,或是結合遺物與裝飾品而成的立體作品,並以自己設計的裝置創作出裝置藝術等,也嘗試結合多種媒體,探索各種創作的可能性。
她因2013年瀨戶內國際藝術祭的作品「漂流郵便局」而為人所熟知。
