“Reality but Virtual / 景實擬虛”

AISHO Hong Kong is honored to kick off 2025 with the first dual exhibition by Hong Kong artists Giraffe Leung Lok Hei and Jay Lau Ka Chun. Titled "Reality but Virtual," the exhibition features the artists using coins and prints as their canvases, employing real fragments of Hong Kong's history as a medium to collaboratively create virtual scenes constructed from reality, showcasing a frame of “Hong Kong” in a parallel time and space.
Giraffe Leung has long exploring his practice on issues of local culture, architecture, and urban development in Hong Kong. His most significant series, "Coins — Memories of Hong Kong," prominently features Hong Kong coins. By employing various chemical techniques to alter the coins' surfaces, Leung creates evocative representations of both currently exists and lost scenes from Hong Kong. The artist’s works navigate the ambiguity between the seen and the unseen, guiding the audience to re-experience aspects of society that should be recognized yet are often taken for granted and overlooked.
Jay Lau’s artistic practice focuses on exploring mechanical reproduction techniques such as printmaking, photography, and mold making, and how they are used to create and recreate images. He utilizes the techniques involved in image production to combine various materials, images, and media, emphasizing the physical characteristics and cultural content of the materials. In this exhibition, viewers can also appreciate his collage technique, which intertwines different times and spaces into pseudo-artifacts.
The two have been engaging in artistic exchanges at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre, and this exhibition marks their first collaboration on the same theme, presenting segments of Hong Kong's seemingly illusory history. The works reference local historical images, with one significant piece centered around the Hilton Hotel Hong Kong (currently the site of Cheung Kong Group Center) and the Bank of China Tower in the 1960s and 70s. It showcases the blend of Eastern and Western cultures in pre-handover Hong Kong, alongside the sparks generated by different architectural styles, culture, and ideology. Although it's merely a fleeting glimpse, the comparison between past and present reveals how much this small city has transformed over the decades.

AISHO Hong Kong 很榮幸能以香港藝術家梁洛熙和劉家俊的首次雙人聯展打開2025年的序幕。這次展覽以「景實擬虛」為題，兩位藝術家分別以硬幣和版畫為畫布，以真實的香港歷史片段為媒介，共同創作了一幅幅從真實中建構的虛擬場景，展現了定格在某個平行時空的香港。
梁洛熙長期關注香港本土文化、建築與城市發展等議題，他其中一個最具代表性的系列以港元硬幣創作，透過化學藥水使硬幣加速氧化及變色，從而使部分硬幣生銹變黑，拼湊出香港多個依舊存在或已消失的地標；藝術家不單是在回應自身對香港的回憶，亦同時在回應城市中每時每刻都在進行中的無可避免的變化。
劉家俊的藝術實踐專注探索版畫、攝影及印模等機械複製技術如何製作及再造圖像。他運用製造圖像過程中所涉及的技術拼合各種材料、圖像及媒體，強調物料的物理特性和文化內容，在本次展覽中也可以欣賞到他以拼貼手法把多個不同時空交織成為一件件偽文物。
兩人在賽馬會創意藝術中心一直有着藝術交流，而本展是他們首次以同一題材創作，以作品呈現一段段如幻似真的香港歷史。作品均參考了一些本地歷史圖片，其中一件主要作品主體為六七十年代的香港希爾頓酒店（現址為長江集團中心）及中國銀行大廈；展現了回歸前的香港中西文化交融、不同的建築風格及思想文化碰撞出的火花。雖然只是驚鴻一瞥，但對照今昔卻讓人驚覺香港這座小城在幾十年間已然是滄海桑田。

AISHO Hong Kong では2025年の皮切りに、香港のアーティスト、ジラフ・レオンとジェイ・ラウによる二人展を開催いたします。「Reality but Virtual(現実でありながらバーチャル)」と題されたこの展覧会で二人は、貨幣や石版といった支持体に香港にかつて実在した風景をコラージュし、今では夢のような存在となってしまったカオティックで旺然たる香港を共同で創り出します。
ジラフ・レオンは長年、香港の文化、建築、都市開発の問題を探求してきました。彼の最も重要なシリーズ「Coins - Memories of Hong Kong」では、香港で今も流通している硬貨を化学的技法を用いて表面を変色・変質させ、香港の現存する風景と失われた風景の両方を描き出しました。ジラフは、目に見えるものと見えないものの間の曖昧さを巧みに織り交ぜ、日常に紛れてしばしば見過ごされがちな社会の側面を観客に再提示します。
ジェイ・ラウは、版画、写真、金型製作などを用いて、イメージを複製し反復する中での変化、劣化、再構築を経た情報伝播の結果を注意深く見つめます。今回の展示ではコンクリートを鋳造した古代の石版(のようなもの)にパラレルの香港の風景を描くという、多層的にコラージュを試みた作品を発表します。
二人はJCCAC(ジョッキークラブクリエイティブアートセンター)にて交流はありましたが、本展覧会が初めてのコラボレーションとなりました。二人の作品には1960年代から70年代にかけてのヒルトン・ホテル香港（現在は長江グループ・センター）や中国銀行タワーといった地元の歴史的なイメージが反映され、異なる建築スタイル、文化、イデオロギーが生み出す火花とともに、返還前の香港における東洋と西洋の文化の融合を紹介しています。香港という小さな都市でたった数十年の間に起こって過ぎ去った激動をぜひご覧ください。
